Jenny Hide, MSW
With over 15 years of experience as a Registered Social Worker in British Columbia, I have had the privilege of working in various settings, including Mental Health & Substance Use, Community Service Organizations, and Interdisciplinary Health Care teams. My extensive experience as a trauma-informed counselor allows me to support individuals navigating challenges such as depression, anxiety, OCD, grief, systems navigation, and other life transitions.
I believe in the power of storytelling; having a safe, confidential, and judgment-free space to share your experiences can open the door to new perspectives and alternative narratives. My approach is trauma-informed, focusing on helping clients recognize their resilience and strengths while fostering motivation to implement positive changes in their lives.
My Approach
I am committed to supporting the whole person—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. My education and extensive experience have equipped me with a strong awareness of social justice and systemic inequalities, which I consider essential in understanding the unique experiences of each individual. I strive to work with clients from diverse backgrounds, approaching each session with humility and a growth mindset.
As an ally to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and (dis)ability communities, I am dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and understood. I am on a continuous learning path, committed to truth, reconciliation, and the decolonization of my personal and professional practices.
Professional Background
I graduated with Honors from the Bachelor of Social Work program at the University of Victoria in 2005 and am set to complete my Master of Clinical Social Work from the University of Calgary in Spring 2024. My training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Trauma-Informed Practice, Narrative Therapy, and Nature-Based Therapy.
Personal Life
Having lived in the Kootenays for 25 years, I find joy in the great outdoors—whether skiing, hiking, or mountain biking, I am continually awed by the beauty of nature. I share my life with my partner of over 20 years, our two teenagers, and a few furry and feathered friends on our couple of acres overlooking Kootenay Lake.
